Too Afraid to Speak Up

The problem of being alert and aware in this day and age is having to explain simple truths to a those around us who, for one reason or another, get their feelings hurt. When pointing out issues which need to be addressed we’re accused of being insensitive, mean spirited louts without compassion. Rather than make our friends uncomfortable we sit around biting our tongues and choke on the blood running down our throats while the situations around us continue to fester until at some point they become more threatening; threatening to the point of endangering our lives.

I ran across an article over at Wayne’s Dirty Lab which fits the mold I just described. The use of Sci-fi makes it acceptable to anyone; after all, it’s just a piece of fiction. Just because most of the information happens to make the hair on your back begin to tingle doesn’t mean a thing; no, it doesn’t mean a thing, it’s fiction.

“So you kept telling yourselves,” said the Time Traveler. His voice was very low but there was a strange and almost frightening edge to it. “But the ‘peace’ in 'Islam’ means ‘Submission.’ You’ll find that out soon enough”

Thank you, Dan Simmons and also Col. Hogan for a rewarding piece of reading. We won’t do anything with this information; but it was interesting, for a piece of fiction.
